Munich

Many associate the Bavarian capital Munich with Oktoberfest and beer drinking, but this city has so much more to offer. Established in 1158 near a Benedictine abbey, it is noted for many Gothic-style cathedrals that decorate the city. The most famous are St. Peter’s Church, the oldest church in Munich and The Church of Our Lady with its "Devil’s Footprint" cast in the stone floor at the entrance. Legend has it that the devil standing in front of the entrance stomped his foot in amazement that the church did not have windows (which it does have, but they are not visible from that particular spot). The most famous landmark in Munich is probably the Glockenspiel on the top of the New Town Hall. This clock has life-size figures that perform scenes from Munich’s history to the tunes of folk music every day at 11 am.
